Some people have a thing about Laurel Touby, founder of Mediabistro.com, perhaps because she wears ill-advised boas and turned a simple idea into Interweb gold. We say we've gotten plenty of jobs off Mediabistro in our day -- you may have too -- and also if we got into a fit everytime ill-advised people got rich, we'd probably be on Neurontin by now, so what the hell.
But Gawker is reporting something about her that piqued our interest. While picking up her min award...
... for being one of the most intriguing people of 2007, Mediabistro.com's Laurel Touby asked the audience: How many people found their jobs on Mediabistro? Two people raised hands. [...] "Oh!" said Touby from the stage. "Three people!"
Now, having seen a similar incident backfire for her elsewhere (during a panel moderated by Hooksexup founder Rufus Griscom, no less), we can't help but assume that this is a sort of routine for Ms. Touby -- which leads us to a thoughtful and constructive suggestion, certainly overdue now that she may have inched closer to making it into the next room:
