"90210": Donna and Diablo

Posted by Lindy Parker

It's spring break in Beverly Hills, kids.  Get psyched.  Here's your ups and downs...

Happy:  Diagnosing Silver's bipolar disorder seems to have erased the awkwardness between she and Dixon.

Sad: Kelly's hovering around Silver weilding "mood charts" like a crazy person.

Happy: Dixon's suggestion that he and Annie need more "one-on-one time," puts us us vaguely in mind of the Brenda/Brandon sexual tension of yore.  The subsequent road trip just confirms this throwback.

Sad:  The original plan of hitting every waterpark in the greater Phoenix area is actually a smokescreen for finding Dixon's birth mother, and we never actually get a waterpark scene.

Happy: Donna flies to Beverly Hills from Japan to comfort Kelly and Silver in their time of need.

Sad: Gasp! Donna and David are separated.  Noooooo!

Happy:  Strangely, we're starting to actually like Ethan now that he's getting kicked off the show.

Sad:  Liam and Ethan's pseudo-peyote trip makes us feel weird.  Poor Ethan is humiliated, Liam's a jackass -- It's a mess.

Happy:  Annie's reunion with Dixon's birth mother is oddly touching.

Sad: Dixon spends the whole reunion in the car.

Happy: Silver finally gets a little excitement in her life when Donna shows up at the door with Diablo Cody and her hamburger phone.

Sad: The Diablo Cody cameo feels a bit like the CW trotting out a showpony, as opposed to actually contributing to the plot flow.

Bonus sad: Where are Navid and DDG?

About Lindy Parker

Lindy Parker has worked as a ghostwriter, editor, dance instructor and a purveyor of dreams, one beer at a time. She now writes for hooksexup.com's TV blog, "The Remote Island." She loves Charles Dickens and Gabriel Garcia Marquez and also, straight-to-video releases with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. It's possible she reads more teen fiction than she should. She hails from Los Angeles, her hometown and soul mate, but she lives in Brooklyn, the fling she'll never forget.

Olivia Purnell left Ohio for sunny Los Angeles; then found that she couldn’t ignore New York City’s call, and brought herself to Brooklyn where she has worked with GenArt, BlackBook, the School of American Ballet, and finished an M.A. in Creative Writing from N.Y.U. She loves one-liners with sting and hates the stench of the subway in the summer. That said, she can’t get enough of either.

Nicole Ankowski has lived in Ohio, Oakland, and on the high plains of South Dakota, but is now proud to call Brooklyn home. She wrote for alternative weekly papers in the first two states, and tried to learn Lakota in the last. (The vowels can be tricky.) She just earned her MFA in Creative Writing and has been published in Beeswax literary journal. She is unable to resist good writing or bad TV.
