Jonathan Knight from New Kids on the Block comes out as gay, sort of
Jonathan Knight — New Kid on the Block — has formally declared that he's gay, though, apparently, he's never hidden it. In his words, "apparently the prerequisite to being a gay public figure is to appear on the cover of a magazine with the caption 'I am gay.' I apologize for not doing so if this is what was expected!" Which, on the one hand, is refreshing, since it runs counter to our society's "straight until proven gay" norm. On the other hand, given the state of gay rights, it couldn't hurt for everyone to say it loud and proud, at least 'til we figure the whole marriage thing out.

For example: "... the husband (and so stepson) of a major conservative politician ..."? If they'd gotten married, he would have been Bristol's husband; Bristol is not a major anything. He would have been Sarah's son in law.
