The Hooksexup Mixtape With Fishbone
Black Flag and Bootsy Collins come together on Fishbone's seduction mix.

Fishbone’s blend of punk, funk, and ska influenced dozens of bands throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, and people like Les Claypool and Flea are still singing their praises. Though they never got much mainstream recognition, a new documentary about the band, Everyday Sunshine, is shedding some much-needed light on the group’s story. Bassist and founding member Norwood Fisher sat down to give us this mixtape that also doubles as a wild ride through the band’s eclectic influences.
1. The Buzzcocks, "Orgasm Addict"
This song is pretty self-explanatory. It's kind of like a warning shot — just let 'em know, "Hey, this is what you're getting into, buddy."
2. X, "Hungry Wolf"
I definitely didn't want to pick "Johnny Hit and Run Paulene." This is just setting the mood a little more. X is a big influence on us — back in the '80s, we were fortunate enough to play with them, and seeing them recently was amazing. They've really matured into a high-powered band. They murder everything around them.
3. Black Flag, "Slip It In"
This is just settin' the pace for passion. Not so romantic, but with this one, people are just gonna be breakin' sweats.
4. Fear, "Beef Bologna"
I think the intro to this song is probably longer than the "actual song," but it's another great high-energy pick.
5. Flipper, "Sex Bomb"
We're getting on with this thing, now. Flipper's heavy, and this song is just — I mean, it's right there in the title. Sex. Bomb.
6. Nashville Pussy, "You're Going Down"
They're just a gnarly, rockin’ band. They have a badass female bass player and a badass female guitarist, just playing that heavy, masculine dude music. That shit is working.
7. The Specials, "Do the Dog"
Ska has a real nasty groove — people don't respect it enough. It's really something to move your hips to. And you know, I respect the sentiment as well. Do the dog, and…so forth.
8. The Stooges, "I Wanna Be Your Dog"
To keep the dog theme going for a little bit.
9. Dermott Lynch, "Adults Only"
This is just old-school rocksteady. And it's got a great album cover.
10. New Birth, "Wild Flower"
This is a '70s soul classic. I actually think that it's about marijuana, but it's definitely a sexy song. You know, as a youth, I was a lot less interested in the slow jams, but "Wild Flower" always did it for me. Now that I'm older, I've realized you've got to slow it down from time to time — you got to shift gears.
11. Al Green, "Simply Beautiful"
It ain't all aggressive and hair-pulling and slobberin' and droolin' and shit. You gotta put some Al Green in the mix. I'm gonna go with "Simply Beautiful," out of the great depth of tracks from Al.
12. Bootsy Collins, "Munchies For Your Love"
You know, you put Bootsy on, with a song like this, and any way you slice it, it's coming up nuts.
13. Funkadelic, "Icka Prick"
We did Bootsy, so now we gotta do Funkadelic. And it's number twelve, so it's gotta get nasty. You've got to end it on a high note. When I grow up, I wanna be like some mixture of George Clinton and Iggy Pop.
