Julian Assange wins Time's 2010 Person of the Year poll

The man we can't stop talking about, Wikileaks' Julian Assange, has garnered the most votes in Time Magazine's 2010 Person of the Year online poll. Assange, who is out on bail in London as of this morning, was the clear winner, receiving 382,020 out of 1,249,425 votes, easily besting the number two vote-getter, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and, perhaps more impressively, Lady Gaga. 

The editors' choice for Person of the Year, and the one that counts, will be announced on Wednesday's "Today" show by Time managing editor Rick Stengel. Assange was just recently the cover boy for Time's December 13 issue, so we could be seeing that ubiquitous mug right back on there. But he faces some stiff competition in the other finalists: the Chilean miners, Steve Jobs, Hamid Karzai, Mark Zuckerberg, and the Tea Party.  

As Person of the Year, Assange would join the illustrious ranks of such past winners as Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Jeff Bezos.
