Bride sues the groom who left her at the altar

sad bride
An attorney from Chicago, whose ex-fiance pulled out of their planned wedding four days before it was to occur, is suing the runaway groom, thirty-one-year-old Vito Salerno, for almost $100,000 over the busted nuptials.

The thirty-one-year-old jilted bride-to-be, Dominique Buttitta, filed suit in Cook County Circuit Court last Friday, claiming breach of promise to marry and intentional infliction of emotional distress, according to the Chicago Tribune, and is looking to recoup more than $95,000 in wedding expenses, including nearly $12,000 on flowers, and $54,000 on her bridal gown and accessories.

If someone isn't in love, they shouldn't get married. But it seems pretty cold and spiteful to back out that close to the bachelorhood buzzer. This could be a costly move for Mr. Salerno; time will tell. Gene Simmons is somewhere laughing right now, probably in his sumptuously-appointed man cave.

Maybe it will spawn a cottage industry for "engagement" and "marital" insurance.

What should one expect from someone named Vito? His mother probably objected.

I'll confess, I only got a B+ in family law and divorce in law school, but this doesn't sound like she's got much of a chance at winning. I'm pretty sure aside from notoriety, he's got little to worry about.

According to the article the bride spent $5,000 on her bridal gown and accessories, not $50,000 ... but that's still a lot of money to be throwing around for one day.

I guess if you count the banquet hall, orchestra and photographer as accessories, it could be 54 grand. The article also noted that in a similar case a couple years ago in Georgia, the jury ordered the dude to pay his ex-fiancee $150,000. So that doesn't bode well for Mr. Salerno.

He should not have to pay. And she should also give back the ring.

I thought that suing for breach of promise for jilting a fiance went out about 100 years ago.

Didn't breach of promise suits brought by jilted brides go the way of the dodo about 100 years back?

It's been a day and a half, and no one's commented on her name being "butt-titta"?
