The cast of Wet Hot American Summer reunites for a radio play

If you're one of those people who thinks radio is exclusively for bearded, white wine-guzzling lefties, baristas with ankle tattoos who want to bang Ira Glass, or senile grandmas who keep tuning in to see what will happen on the next installment of The Goldbergs, think again! The radio is for fresh, hip, red-blooded, laugh-loving Americans like you and me, friend, as the recent radio performance of 2001 cult classic Wet Hot American Summer definitively proves.

Last Saturday, a bunch of the original cast members of Wet Hot got together at San Francisco Sketchfest to perform a radio play of the movie in front of a sold-out audience. Among the cast members in attendance were comedy luminaries Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter, Christopher Meloni, Molly Shannon, and Joe Lo Truglio. Director/screenwriter David Wain was also present (though co-stars Bradley Cooper, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Elizabeth Banks, and that chick from Mighty Ducks 2 were noticeably absent), as well as Colin Hanks, Andy Richter, and David Cross, for some reason, presumably because everyone in attendance had a death wish and they wanted to spontaneously combust in the presence of overwhelming awesomeness.

EW has photos from the reunion, and they are super-sweet. But they don't have any audio of the reading, so that's not so super-sweet. If you've seen Wet Hot before, and you want the old-timey 1930s version of one of the funniest movies of the last twenty years, you're shit out of luck. And if you're one of those people who hasn't seen Wet Hot before... well, I'd tell you to go see it immediately, but dude, you're probably beyond my help at this point. Just sit in a corner, watch this a few times, and think about what you've done. And don't leave until the prequel comes out.
