Hey, what's James Franco up to right now, today? Why, he's simply out of control: the guy is wrapping up talks to direct movie adaptations of both William Faulkner's As I Lay Dying and Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian. Oh, and guess who wrote the scripts for those adaptations? Yep, James Franco wrote those scripts.
My goodness, America — we've created a monster. Will actor, writer, artist, and graduate student James Franco become actor, writer, artist, graduate student, and auteur James Franco? How long until James Franco has adapted every single Southern Gothic/Western novel ever, forcing James Franco to start writing new ones himself? What do you want from us, James Franco?!

I still haven't recovered from reading As I Lay Dying in 10th grade. If he can pull of Blood Meridian, God bless him. That's one that needs to be made, but it also requires a deft hand.
Oh, and Franco's got some new original fiction out now: https://goodmenproject.com/2011/01/01/yosemite/
Its a short story.
I like James Franco a lot, but I like As I Lay Dying a lot more. It doesn't need to be a movie--it's fine as a book.
oh man oh man oh man I hope he can knock it out of the park with Blood Meridian! Hey James, if you aren't acting in it, can I have a shot?
I'm not necessarily certain that "As I Lay Dying" could really work as a film. I mean, more power to him, but the structure and points of view are so screwed up that it would have to be a -really- loose adaptation.
Now that's sutble! Great to hear from you.
