Katy Perry in lingerie Rolling Stone

Normally, we don't have much to say about Katy Perry -- or, really, anyone who has had a radio hit since 1994. Her music is basically regurgitated, computerized spittle, catchy like a car commerical jingle and without any staying power whatsoever. Now, if she would only stop posing in her lingerie on the cover of Rolling Stone and avoid discussing her early religious brainwashing, we could totally ignore her.

As it is, this interview is very revealing (and not in the photographic sense.) Perry, who wrote a big #1 about lesbian makeouts, comes from a bizarre religious upbringing... and for that, she is a much more interesting person than we previously suspected:

"I wasn't ever able to say I was 'lucky' because my mother would rather us say that we were blessed, and she also didn't like that lucky sounded like Lucifer," she told the magazine, which hits newsstands Friday. "Deviled eggs were called 'angelled' eggs. I wasn't allowed to eat Lucky Charms, but I think that was the sugar. I think my mom lied to me about that one."

Perry, who has the word "Jesus" tattooed on her wrist, admits that her parents channeled God regularly. "Speaking in tongues is as normal to me as 'Pass the salt.' It's a secret, direct prayer language to God," she explained, adding that her father is the one who can speak in tongues with her mother acting as translator. "That's their gift," she said. You don't have much to say about people who have hits on the radio since 1994? Really? Half the website is a Lady Gaga tribute and the other half has issued a hit on M.I.A.

I actually always wondered about her religious transformation. Her and Anne Rice are very interesting when it comes to sex and God

Have to agree with the first poster. If you were to remove True Blood and Mad Men posts in addition to the Lady Gaga and M.I.A. crap you'd have nothing left. Such a shame. This blog used to be good.

I wouldn't go so far as saying the blog is bad, just that it focuses quite a bit on M.I.A. and Gaga, and it's dumb to pretend that they only write about the super-hip indie unknowns.

sad to say but pop always wins...even when 'indie' wins it turns to pop in the end :(

Agreed....Katy Perry may be as equally talentless as Lady Gaga, but at least she's sexy in theory.

So if you don't write about pop stars does that mean when the new Arcade Fire record sells a million copies and they appear on Letterman this website will shut the fuck up about them? Seriously...have you seen them live? Fucking train wreck. Only outdone by their Canadian comrades Broken Social Scene for complete and utter hipster fucktard status...but Katy Perry is hot as balls...some of her christian era press photos are hot in a Molly Ringwald sort of way

I can never understand why people complain about how a blog isn't "good anymore" and continue to read it day after day.
