Bill Maher: "Rick Santorum thinks about gay sex more than any gay man in America"

Yesterday, Bill Maher and Chelsea Handler got together to commiserate, as comedians, about how sad it was that Herman Cain had dropped out of the race — since with his bizarre pronouncements and near constant flubs (How do you say "delicious" in Cuban, anyway?), he was a comedic gold mine. Thankfully, for comedians' sakes, (and terrifyingly for the rest of us) we've still got Rick Santorum.
Chelsea asked who the funniest GOP candidate is now that Cain is out of the race, and Maher answered Santorum. He went out to point out that there's no one in America more obsessed with gay sex:
“He wears a sweater vest everywhere, which is proof that he does not have one gay friend... This guy thinks about gay sex more than any gay man in America. There’s a guy down in West Hollywood working at Dorothy’s and Dildos who does not think about gay sex as much as Rick Santorum.”
He also brought up the fact that Santorum is likely the most sexually frustrated man in America. A valid point: with a little Googling and basic knowledge of his policies, we could infer that Rick Santorum last had an orgasm in sometime in March of 2008 — nine months or so before the birth of his youngest child. Or at least I'd certainly hope that was the last time, since he's been pretty outspoken about the fact that he does not believe in sex for pleasure, contraception, or (surely) masturbation. Which is to say that Maher's charge — "He's more backed up than the 405" — is probably spot on.
In either case, it's good to have someone making us laugh about the national prominence Rick Santorum. It helps stave off that deep feeling of shame.

I would make Maher synonymous with Santorum.
Yeah, he can be a little horrible, but I think he's spot-on in this case.
The difference between Maher and Santorum is that Maher is funny on purpose, and doesn't wish to rule other peoples' behavior. Whereas Santorum is only funny by accident, and desires to control your private and public behavior because "that's the way things should be."
So pretty much they're entirely different, except that each can be vulgar.
Maher isn't funny and is as obnoxious about other people's lifestyles as anybody.

Maher funny? That alone is the funny. Maher is meanspirited and hateful.
Meanspirited and hateful aren't necessarily opposed to funny. I find the man short-sighted, arrogant, more than occasionally sexist, and not particularly smart but I still think he can tell a good joke when he wants to.
Maher is as much a liability to the left as Limbaugh is to the right, as we have found out these last few day
s. Maher even criticized the cancellation of Limbaugh's sponsors. Just like we don't like to see each other kicked in the nuts, obnoxious media personalities don't like to see each other put in their places.
I don't see the connection between wearing a sweater vest and not having any gay friends. I must not be keeping up with these things.
Really guys? Bill Maher can be preachy and annoying, sure - but he's a comic with a TV show. I think Daniel Tosh is a shitty and irresponsible guy, but also don't waste too much time thinking about it. The game changes when you're a nut who's running for president, trying to win the right to govern all of us.
OK, you like Maher so he's just a comic. You don't like Tosh so he's irresponsible and causes you to show your lack of vocabulary. The "game," apparently a euphemism for being fair changes when someone is running for President? Sounds like a convenient way of justifying name calling.
@Publius. You're right. Cable-TV comedians should be held to the same standards of civility and fact-checking as presidential candidates. It will make for boring TV but, er, I guess we can all feel fair and balanced, or something once Maher, Stewart, Colbert, the BBC 4 News Quiz, and all those other offenders have been properly chastized and made to play nice.
Actually, it would be nice if presidential candidates were held to any standard of fact-checking. And it would be funny. So here we are, full circle.
And Maher is hateful? Come on now, Publius. Whining does not become you.
Publius, once again, there is a difference. Maher is a TV comedian. Santorum wants to be the big boss, "The Capo de tutti Capi" for me and you ... and some people may not find Maher funny, but enough do that his contracts get renewed.
Santorum didn't get his contract renewed in PA, BTW.
