I guess it's only been two seasons, but it felt like so, so much longer than that. TBS has announced the cancelation of Lopez Tonight. Finally the world will be free of George Lopez and his zany, piñatas-are-hilarious, late-night travesty. And yes, to preempt your question, I have watched his stand-up; it's not that funny and it in no way redeems whatever he was doing on TBS.
When Conan O'Brien moved to TBS last year, ousting Lopez from his 11 p.m. time-slot, Lopez did seem pretty gracious about the whole thing. But not even the relatively high viewership of Conan's show leading into Lopez Tonight could save it from its cancelation destiny. At time of cancelation, Lopez's show garnered a mere 250,000 adult viewers per episode compared to O'Brien's respectable, though hardly impressive, 750,000. Lopez Tonight ends, mercifully, tonight.

The sad thing is that this guy is actually funny. But these shows really suck. Who the fuck watches that geriatric Leno or corny-ass Conan. The whole genre is wickedly out of date.
Corny Ass Conan? You're either A: Comedically,Mentally Culturally,Retarded,or 1,2,3 of those. Have never seen old Conan, or just suck and have no sense of humour. Or Idk, you find boring shit funny.
Conan O'Brien is still on TV? Who knew?
Are you being serious or kidding? Or are you just really out of touch with what's been going on?
Conan is not funny at all and perhaps the only thing more annoying than him are his legions of ravenous fanboys. Man I just cant get enough of his "tell a bad joke-make sound effects-unbutton and rebutton his jacket" schtick.
Conan is hilariously awesome, which is why we love him. What comedy/ians do you like?
Agreed, Lopez was very funny when he first emerged. Can't someone give Maria Bamford a sitcom? Her extended sequence on John Oliver's standup show was the single funniest performance by a comic I've seen all year.
Maria Bamford! She's the best
Maria Bamford?! Let's get married she's one of my all time favorites.
All these talk shows are advertisements for the celebrities films that are coming out that week.
I can't believe you'd be so racist as to not even consider that Lopez was fired for being "too ethnic." You should be ashamed of yourselves.
Tell me you’re kidding. What do you think, the guys that hired him at TBS hadn't seen any of his stand-up or his sitcom, let him do the show and went "Oh shit... this guy does ethnic humor!?" More likely than not, he was actually hired because TBS was looking to add some ethnicity to their programming. I respected what Lopez was doing, and I wanted to like it. Problem was... he just wasn't that funny. He looked like a deer in headlights up there, even the jokes he told that were good were often tough to enjoy because of how damn nervously he delivered them. It just wasn’t the right job for him.
All of which is just a way of saying that he was hired for being ethnic and fired for being ethnic.
There is no brown card.
