That '70s Show promotional ad

You thought the That '70s Show mini-revival was over, didn't you? Not if NBC has anything to do with it! The network has announced its decision to cast Laura Prepon as a young Chelsea Handler in the recently picked-up sitcom based on Handler's memoir Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea.

Most of us remember Prepon for her role as Donna, the ginger tomboy with an on-again-off-again romance with Topher Grace's character, Eric. Or maybe you remember how she made a drastic shift from red to blonde towards the end of the series. Either way, get ready to see Prepon in a whole new light as Chelsea, a feisty, single cocktail waitress with an affinity for alcohol and sex — often at the same time.

The multi-camera show is being produced by team behind Dharma & Greg (wow, remember that show? Maybe it's more like a late-'90s-sitcom mini-revival), as well as Handler herself. No word on how much actual sex will be shown, but if we've learned anything from the past few months, Natalie Portman should probably clear her schedule now for that imminent girl-on-girl scene.

When she started on 70s Show, I thought she could become the next Lauren Bacall -- the smokey voice, the height, the presence, the sensuality. She really hasn't moved beyond that. She's been trying to go the bombshell route (and the role seems consistent with that), when what she should be doing is going for smart, sassy and smouldering.
