The Walking Dead more popular than Mad Men

AMC's stylish horror series The Walking Dead premiered this weekend and immediately grabbed the network their highest numbers for a series ever, with 5.3 million viewers, outranking both Mad Men and Breaking Bad. If you distill this information down to "zombie action show more popular than slow-paced period drama," it may not be that surprising, but given the critical adulation of Mad Men (and to a lesser extent, Breaking Bad), it's an eye-opener. Leaving aside popularity, is the show any good? Consensus suggests yes.

It also did better than most episodes of True Blood or Jersey Shore.

Zombies rule. The show really is good. I'm not sure how he got injured in his stomach when he was shot in his shoulder.

The show is quite good. I suspect the success of the premiere was due to more/better marketing. AMC is starting to get VERY serious about their programming, for which I, for one, am thankful. (And didn't he sorta get hit in the lat? Which would tend to make a person grasp in the general area in the front...?)

I thought the premier was great, very faithful to the comic. I'm glad the creators have said they were going to deviate a bit from the source, though -- that thing took a strange turn after a while.
