AMC's "The Walking Dead" debuts first trailer online

This trailer for The Walking Dead, AMC's upcoming drama/horror based of the comic book series by Robert Kirkman, first premiered at ComicCon, but now it's finally been released to the general public, and it doesn't disappoint. There are so many things that excite me about this project. For one thing, the idea that AMC of all places is going to produce a TV show about zombies is amazing. The station is at least two for three when it comes to original series (though I've heard good things about Rubicon), and I love the idea a show like Mad Men living on the same network as The Walking Dead.

For another, the show's creators have promised to stay very true to the original comic, which is almost always a good move. It helps that the original material is pretty damn good. (Well, technically, I think it was really good, until it wasn't. But that's probably a thought for another time.)

One final thing before I get to the video itself: some of those zombies look fucking gross. I seriously cannot wait for the series premier:

I love that music choice. The Walking Dead starts this October, just in time to help inspire your zombie Halloween costumes.

This looks insanely awesome. Go AMC!

It's like Zombieland only without the humor. If I were a cop who happened to be one of the few non-zombies, I would definitely still wear my uniform, all tucked-in, and ride around on a horse instead of, say, driving a car.

*grins* I was one of the zombies chasing him on his horse. I'm a big fan of the comic and cannot wait for this to air!

Hey Zombieman. Cars cannot be trusted. They break down and if this truly is the zombie apocalypse then there most likely isn't any fuel left or all of the gas stations are swarming with the undead. I just bought the compendium on Amazon. So incredibly excited for this. I might reread World War Z just to prepare. If you haven't read World War Z then do it now!

Yeah because horses have failed as transportation for centuries and wearing the uniform of a civil servant after a catastrophe would be make you like untrustworthy to survivors.

Really excited about this. AMC makes fantastic television, but the ratings always suck (especially Rubicon, even though I think it's pretty good). This could have mass appeal and give its other shows a shot at being mainstream hits!

Also: Huge potential for crossover episodes here.
