What Can You Learn From Casting A Reality TV Show?

Given that reality TV makes up like 94.7% of our cultural output as a species right now, hearing from the people who cast these things is kind of like seeing how Picasso assembled his still lives. Over at Lemondrop, Sarah Monson writes about the several years she spent casting dating-themed shows like The Bachelor and, um, Foursome (which was on...I'm guessing ABC Family?) and how the casting process helped her dating life. You might not expect this lesson to come from involvement with reality TV, but: people lie!

If he says he's 6 feet tall, he's really 5-foot-9. If he says he's 5-foot-8, he's really 5-foot-5. And if he actually puts 5-foot-6 on paper, he's never ridden a roller coaster in his life. At 6-foot-3 or above, though, he's telling the truth. At that height, you really can't lie in person.

Apparently this is common with online dating as well, which is why I make it a point to tell the truth in my profile.
