Watch: Todd Solondz's "Life During Wartime" - exclusive clip

Todd Solondz's new movie, Life During Wartime, comes out this Friday. It's a sequel to his 1998 film Happiness, completely recast. (The new cast includes The Wire's beloved Omar, Michael K. Williams, as well as Shirley Henderson, The West Wing's Allison Janney, Ally Sheedy, and Paul Reubens.) Each Solondz movie starting with his 1995 debut, Welcome to the Dollhouse, and picking up particularly with Happiness itself, has kicked up a lot of debate about how much of a misanthropist the director is or isn't; often unnoticed in those arguments is that the guy's writing can be awfully funny (albeit, to my eyes, in an often uncomfortable/misanthropic way). That sense of humor, as well as that trademark social discomfort, is readily on display in the exclusive clip above. Check it out, and watch a full trailer for Life During Wartime below.

Alison Janney is terrific, just something great about her. The other actress is painful to watch. Meaning, I wouldn't enjoy it.
