Black Swan, Darren Aronofsky's psychological thriller about ballerinas, was announced as the opening film of the 67th annual Venice Film Festival, and will be in competition with films like Sofia Coppola's Somewhere and Julian Schnabel's Mira. Black Swan (note: above image not from the movie), if you don't know, tells the story of two rival ballerinas competing for the lead role in Swan Lake, one who embodies the "good" white swan (Natalie Portman) and one who embodies the "bad" black swan (Mila Kunis). (Both roles are to played by the same dancer, for those of you not up on your classical ballet.)
Given Aronofsky's resume (Requiem For a Dream, The Fountain), the movie is pretty much guaranteed to be, if not good, then at least an entertaining head trip. And the images being relased in advance of the film certainly support that:
Now that's the kind of weirdo shit I like to see in a psychological thriller about ballerinas. This also seems to be a Portman-heavy day, what with this movie and the trailer for Thor coming out, so tell me readers, which film are you looking forward to more?
