[$52, Urban Outfitters]

A few months ago, back when I was supposed to be Christmas shopping for other people, I ordered this mirror from Urban Outfitters. For myself.

(Shopping for others always whets my appetite for self-gratification.)

When it finally arrived, I was ridiculously excited and, when I held it up to the wall in my bedroom, it looked totally awesome.

Except for the fact that the mirror glass had shattered into multiple pieces whilst in transit.

This time, I'm going to get off my butt and actually go to the store myself, and then carry that mirror home in my own steady and nurturing arms. You should too. The frame is made with coils of recycled magazine pages, so you're supporting recycling! And magazines!

I love magazines!

the same exact thing happened to me! Except i called them & they sent me one that wasn't broken...then i had two! Only one had no mirror obviously....so i made my boyfriend take a knife and cut out the middle cardboard so i could hang it on the back of my door around my peep-hole (you know, Friends-style?)and he cut his finger open in the middle of it and passed out on the kitchen(ette) floor. Now it's in my closet gathering dust bunnies. Don't worry, my BF's fine now!

@erik: that's actually a darn good idea; perhaps a trip to the patent office is in order...

@Hooksexup911: your boyfriend is a brave, brave man. plus, i'm afraid to order a new one through the mail, because if the same exact thing happened again, i would be heartbroken. i should just suck it up, though.

about the blogger

Wendy Atterberry is a recent transplant to New York City via Chicago. You can often find her at some karaoke dive bar singing her repertoire, which includes "Midnight Train to Georgia," "Daniel," and most recently, "Sweet Dreams." Don't expect her to always hit the right notes. She lives in Manhattan with her boyfriend and two cats, and has a blog like everyone else.

Alex Zalben is a writer living in New York City. He's written for McSweeney's, Modern Humorist and PulpSecret.com. As one-fifth of the sketch comedy group Elephant Larry, he has been written up in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and pretty much every other major publication. Their blog was named one of PC Magazine's Top Blogs for 2007, and they recently won an ECNY Award for their viral short, "Minesweeper: The Movie." Alex did not know love until he bought his first Mac.

Diana Vilibert is a freelance writer, among other things. Born in Lithuania, she now lives in New Jersey, where she doesn't have to walk to work ten miles in the snow, barefoot, uphill both ways. Diana cannot afford most of the products she writes about because she buys too many pairs of heels to make up for her shoeless childhood. She's written for MarieClaire.com, Janemag.com, and CosmoGIRL!.
