The Sweet and the Low: Gold Sandals for Summer

Posted by Steph Auteri

Mother's Day. Cinco De Mayo. Baby showers. Weddings. Communions. Just-Because-It's-Nice-Out Parties.

I've got plenty of events coming up and, luckily, I have the dress as well.

I don't think my Nike flip-flops, however, are gonna cut it.

I know I should buy the $20 gold sandals from Target, but are they chic enough?

After the jump, I've rounded up a number of my favorite pairs from the fabulous Zappos site, in order from "realistic" to "I'm flirting with bankruptcy." As we'll all be sandal-shopping soon enough, hopefully you'll find a pair you like as well (and dude, if it's the higher-end one, let me know if you get them, so I can live vicariously through you).

[$19.99, Target]

[$83, Zappos]

[$102.60, Zappos]

[$200, Zappos]

frankly, i'm digging the target shoes best.  the $200 shoes are a distant second.  plus, just think of all the dancing you'll be doing in said shoes.

the target ones are great for casual. baby shower, mother's day, stuff like that. Plus they would probably work well with jeans. The $200 ones are better for going out to somewhere more dressy.

where's the dress from?!

I like the target shoes the best. And the $100 shoes are just crazy enough to be cute.

I love that we all love the Target shoes. I'm definitely the type of person to consistently spend under $50 on shoes. As for the dress, I just picked it up from JCrew! $78! (lots of colors available)

I actually really like the $100 ones, and sorry to say, I'm actually not crazy about the Target ones. I think it's the strap across the ankle that turns me off -- makes the shoes too casual for the dress, me thinks...

Steph... the dress is soo pretty.. i now have to own it!  Also on the shoes... i understand what Wendy is saying about the ankle strap thingy.. but they are the best of the bunch!  The 83 dollars ones remind me of something I had when I was 12, the 100 dollar ones are way too fancy and the 200 dollar ones are not worth 200 dollar.  Trust me... remember that I own Manolos :)

about the blogger

Wendy Atterberry is a recent transplant to New York City via Chicago. You can often find her at some karaoke dive bar singing her repertoire, which includes "Midnight Train to Georgia," "Daniel," and most recently, "Sweet Dreams." Don't expect her to always hit the right notes. She lives in Manhattan with her boyfriend and two cats, and has a blog like everyone else.

Alex Zalben is a writer living in New York City. He's written for McSweeney's, Modern Humorist and PulpSecret.com. As one-fifth of the sketch comedy group Elephant Larry, he has been written up in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and pretty much every other major publication. Their blog was named one of PC Magazine's Top Blogs for 2007, and they recently won an ECNY Award for their viral short, "Minesweeper: The Movie." Alex did not know love until he bought his first Mac.

Diana Vilibert is a freelance writer, among other things. Born in Lithuania, she now lives in New Jersey, where she doesn't have to walk to work ten miles in the snow, barefoot, uphill both ways. Diana cannot afford most of the products she writes about because she buys too many pairs of heels to make up for her shoeless childhood. She's written for MarieClaire.com, Janemag.com, and CosmoGIRL!.
