  • Just To Say Olive Juice

I have just found the awesomest gift for that foodie or Top Chef hopeful in your life:

Nudo, an olive grove in Le Marche, Italy, is offering a program where you can adopt one of its trees for 65 pounds and, for a year afterward, receive the fruits of its labors.

  • Can't Kick That Caffeine Habit

Yesterday, I nearly had a meltdown because I ran out of my favorite coffee grinds.

This morning, I found a partially filled bag in the back of the freezer. Whew!

I should totally find something to take the edge off for those days when I really am out:

  • Where's The Bacon?

For all the talk of bacon that goes down on this blog, I find I'm not consuming nearly enough of it. And I do so love its salty tenderness, and the way it seems to just melt/crumble in my mouth if cooked in exactly the right way. Perhaps it's simply too much trouble to fire up the griddle?

  • Love It or Leave It? Lollyphile Lollipops

    [4 for $10; 12 for $24; 36 for $52, Lollyphile]

Not to be outdone in the lollipop category, I happened upon these gourmet lollipops. I with they just had plain ol' maple, but I suppose that wouldn't be very gourmet. I guess.

They do, however, have absinthe-flavored lollies.

  • Ice Cream Cone Lighting Fixture!

Sugar cones suck, right? I think we can all agree on that. Waffle cones are awesome, just because of their size. They are way too much ice cream, but by the point you’ve ordered a waffle cone, you know what you’re in for. You’ve made a tacit agreement with your stomach that the only thing you’ll be eating all day is ice cream, and you’re fine with that.

Soft-serve are more controversial, because they taste like absolutely nothing. Nothing, that is, except childhood. And the pureness of joy. Deal with that, haters.

Sugar cones suck so hard not just because they’re the dominant cone, but also because they try so hard to split the difference between the waffle and soft serve. “Oh, I’m so tasty,” they say. “I’m soooo convenient for carrying.” Well, I say toss that sugar cone, and embrace either your childhood, or your lifelong battle with obesity*.

This is why I’m so glad Mixko has decided to only highlight the delightful Waffle and Soft-Serve cones in their line of ice cream themed lighting fixtures. They come in two different colors, fit most bulbs, and fight the dominance of the sugar cone. Go Mixko! Fight the power!

    [$80, Mixko]

*Possibly one may be related to the other.

  • Will You Come To My Birthday Party?

Does this situation sound familiar to you?

"Hello! I am having a birthday party, and I would like all of you to come. It should be ever so much! We’re having pizza, and going to sing my favorite songs, and then we’ll open presents! Oh, I’m practically bursting with excitement!

However… I must ask you this, and please, I hope I don’t cause offense. I know that every year, you like to bring cupcakes to my birthday party, and well, you see… Every year, you throw them in a bag, and they end up as a lumpy mess of cupcake. The
frosting mixes with the smashed cake, and… Again, no offense… I hate you. I hate your cupcakes, and if you don’t do something to fix it, I will NEVER INVITE YOU TO MY BIRTHDAY PARTY AGAIN!"

No, it doesn’t? It was too specific? Okay, well, regardless, let’s assume that at some point you’ve had a Messy Cupcake Dilemma™. If so, I have two things that’ll help you deal with this treat disaster after the jump...

Hello? Yes? Gumballs? Why they’re right here, let me get them.

The above is a dramatic interpretation of the sort of conversation that might go on when you purchase your new, awkwardly-named Animated Dubble Bubble Gumball Telephone. Deets after the jump...

This one’s for the fellas, so ladies, go back to your Best of Etsy, or whatever.

Dudes, now that we’re alone, let’s talk about the two most awesome things ever, and how we can combine them. No, I’m not talking about Beer Football. I’m talking about cars, and BBQ. Thanks to the fine folks over at BBQ Vette, you can finally combine the hottest car with the hottest coals.

Just a quick check, we’re in the 1980s, right? Okay, cool.

More vague sexism after the jump...

  • Cheap Trick: Tac Tac Toast and Bunny Eggs

    [$3, Perpetual Kid]

There’s just something about putting your food in a mold that makes it ridiculously more delicious. For example, the above Tic Tac Toast.

Toast is boring and dry, right? Well, why not take this re-usable mold, and turn your toast into an action packed game board! It’s entirely up to you what you use for the Xs and Os (or, as the example shows, the Jellys and the Peanut Butters), but I think we can all agree that with Tic Tac Toast, fun is on the menu!

The world's cutest egg mold, after the jump...

  • Spin That Wine, DJ

Here’s a killer app. for your wine bottles: the SpinWine Pourer, which claims to filter and oxidize your wine using a bunch of pseudo-scientific terms in its product description.

As an amateur wine taster myself, I’m going to go out on a limb and say this is BAD product if you’re a wine connoisseur. I don’t really know anyone who would put their wine through a Brita Filter (maybe a PUR Flavor Filter, to get the sweet berry flavors inside… But I digress), so why in the world would you use this product? Find out after the jump...

about the blogger

Wendy Atterberry is a recent transplant to New York City via Chicago. You can often find her at some karaoke dive bar singing her repertoire, which includes "Midnight Train to Georgia," "Daniel," and most recently, "Sweet Dreams." Don't expect her to always hit the right notes. She lives in Manhattan with her boyfriend and two cats, and has a blog like everyone else.

Alex Zalben is a writer living in New York City. He's written for McSweeney's, Modern Humorist and PulpSecret.com. As one-fifth of the sketch comedy group Elephant Larry, he has been written up in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and pretty much every other major publication. Their blog was named one of PC Magazine's Top Blogs for 2007, and they recently won an ECNY Award for their viral short, "Minesweeper: The Movie." Alex did not know love until he bought his first Mac.

Steph Auteri is a freelance writer and proofreader who has been published in Publishers Weekly, New York Press, Playgirl, and other bastions of fine writing. She maintains a professional site https://www.stephiswrite.com, and also blogs about freelancing over at Freelancedom. You can keep up on her day-to-day by visiting her Twitter page.

Diana Vilibert is a freelance writer, among other things. Born in Lithuania, she now lives in New Jersey, where she doesn't have to walk to work ten miles in the snow, barefoot, uphill both ways. Diana cannot afford most of the products she writes about because she buys too many pairs of heels to make up for her shoeless childhood. She's written for MarieClaire.com, Janemag.com, and CosmoGIRL!.
