  • Top 17 Coolest Movie Vehicles Of All Time... And How To Buy 'Em

The history of film has been littered with memorable vehicles. Cars, trucks, and other things that go vroom have often been as important as the people who drive them. So herewith, a list of the seventeen coolest movie road vehicles (so no boats, or planes) of all time.

And, since this is the Modern Materialist, we're going to hook you up with how you can grab one of your own movie rides. It may not be in everyone's price range, but it'll certainly be on your wish list:

  • 5 Ways To Utilize the Promotional Giveaway

Back when I did marketing work for an academic book publisher, I attended my share of professional conferences, selling books and rendezvousing with authors.

My favorite aspect — without a doubt —  was the freebies. Aside from the maple-flavored fudge at a conference in Montreal (divine), which wasn't transportable, I gloried in coming home with free pens, squeezy stress balls, and corporate tote bags.

I am cheap, and easily excitable.

What would I do with my own, personalized giveaways?

    1. Tout my awesomeness.
    2. Pass my number along to attractive menfolk.
    3. Promote my at-home business.
    4. Be passive-aggressively insulting: "Here, you look like you could use this Stephanie-shaped stress ball."
    5. Promote my fantasy, non-existent at-home business.

We're getting down to the nitty gritty now, the top ten movie products of all time. These are the items that you saw in a movie, and rushed out and bought afterwards. Or at the very least, put on your wish list, and had someone buy for you. They are the things that not only appeared in the movie, but also made the movie. In case you need a review session, Check out 20-16, and 15-11, then head back here for the beginning of the Top 10 countdown:

  • The Top 20 Products in Movies (20-16)

Ah, the movies...a mileu of fantasy and wish fulfillment and escapism. Not to mention the arbiters of cool. In fact, movies have been telling me what's cool since I was about 5, and saw E.T. for the first time. I immediately rushed home and bestowed my previously uncared-for E.T. doll with the honor of Favorite Doll. Since then, I've based all of my interests upon what I've seen in theaters (okay, not everything, but my multiple viewings of Sideways somehow coincided with my interests in wine quite closely).

In case you're still not entirely sure what's cool and all, the other Materialistias and I have drawn together a list of the 20 top movie products, products that exploded in the public consciousness due to prominent movie appearance. And without further ado...

  • Five Things I Hope They Have At This Friday's Slumber Party

Yes, I'm going to a slumber party. And yes, I'm 27.

The birthday girl is turning 28.

It promises to be a major nostalgia-fest. I'm crossing my fingers that there's:

    1. A major board game tournament (I'm bringing Boggle and Scattergories to get the ball rolling...)
    2. Pizza (and not that generic Domino's crap either; I want good, local pizzeria pizza)
    3. Makeovers
    4. Craft projects
    5. Ghost stories, perhaps spurred along by a good, old-fashioned...

about the blogger

Wendy Atterberry is a recent transplant to New York City via Chicago. You can often find her at some karaoke dive bar singing her repertoire, which includes "Midnight Train to Georgia," "Daniel," and most recently, "Sweet Dreams." Don't expect her to always hit the right notes. She lives in Manhattan with her boyfriend and two cats, and has a blog like everyone else.

Alex Zalben is a writer living in New York City. He's written for McSweeney's, Modern Humorist and PulpSecret.com. As one-fifth of the sketch comedy group Elephant Larry, he has been written up in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and pretty much every other major publication. Their blog was named one of PC Magazine's Top Blogs for 2007, and they recently won an ECNY Award for their viral short, "Minesweeper: The Movie." Alex did not know love until he bought his first Mac.

Steph Auteri is a freelance writer and proofreader who has been published in Publishers Weekly, New York Press, Playgirl, and other bastions of fine writing. She maintains a professional site https://www.stephiswrite.com, and also blogs about freelancing over at Freelancedom. You can keep up on her day-to-day by visiting her Twitter page.

Diana Vilibert is a freelance writer, among other things. Born in Lithuania, she now lives in New Jersey, where she doesn't have to walk to work ten miles in the snow, barefoot, uphill both ways. Diana cannot afford most of the products she writes about because she buys too many pairs of heels to make up for her shoeless childhood. She's written for MarieClaire.com, Janemag.com, and CosmoGIRL!.

Shaun Seneviratne is a dude just like anyone else. Just your average guy that raps Bone Thugs-n-Harmony to strangers on the subway at 4 a.m., doesn't chew his food because he believes it's a waste of time, and sleeps next to a scale replica of the Ghostbusters headquarters. He can rest easy knowing Egon, Peter, Ray, and Winston have his back. He currently lives in northern New Jersey, plays bass in Rapid Cities, and recently started a tumblr.
