You're Circumcised? Well, That Explains It...

Posted by Brian Fairbanks

"Ladies, have you been having trouble with your heterosexual sex life?

"Then you need to try... uncircumcised!" Seriously, a new study by The International Coalition for Genital Integrity (it sounds like a bad Sacha Baron Cohen pitch) says that circumcised guys are statistically proven to be less spectacular in the orgasm-inducing department...

Here's what we mean:

"During intercourse, the skin of an intact penis slides up and down the shaft, stimulating the glans and the Hooksexups of the inner and outer foreskin. On the outstroke, the glans is partially or completely engulfed by the foreskin with more skin remaining inside the vagina than is the case with the circumcised penis. This `valve' mechanism is thought to retain the natural lubrication provided by the female because the bunched up skin acts to block the lubrication escaping from the vagina, which results in dryness."

Thank you, Doctor Obvious.

The study goes on to explain that

reduced female arousal and fewer female orgasms may be linked to women having sex with circumcised male partners. Women reported they were about twice as likely to experience orgasm if their male partner had a foreskin.

Nine out of ten women prefer having sex with intact men, the study finds.

Uh oh, American dudes. Seven out of ten of you are circumcised... could this explain the (mass) sexual problems everyone out there seems to be having? (We'll reserve comment on our sex lives and circumcision/non-circumcision for TMI reasons.) Anyway, we'd like both sexes to weigh in... is this study bullshit or is it hitting the nail on the, um, head?

Wow. Interesting. I am intact and was made to feel like a complete loser for it my whole life. The ridicule I experienced because of being intact has made me terrified of sex and I have been involuntarily celibate because of this for over 8 years now...

Wish I had known intact men were better lovers a long time ago.

I call bullshit.  The International Coalition for Genital Integrity has been angling for respectability for years, as evidenced by their early Daily Show (I think?  Could have been Ripley's Belive It Or Not) appearance.  This study feels like the American Corn Lobby publishing an scholarly article proving that people prefer corn syrup in their soda over sugar.

I am circumcized and somehow the women I have been with never had a problem with dryness.  I think that if the little amount of skin left to an intact man is so important to keep lubrication of the vagina, there is a problem in the woman not getting sufficiently and continuously aroused.  Wanna bet that 9 out of 10 women preferring intact men were spouses or girlfriends of male members of the ICGI?

To me this is a ridiculous "study"as from my experience it is all a question of esthetics (well, maybe not from an HIV perspective): some (men and women) like the extra skin, some don't.  It has nothing to do with performance.

Well, to be honest, i think circumcised peni  are kind of sad. like, missing-finger sad. And yes, the more skin you have to work with, the less likely it is to get dry/ouchy. Not necessarily more orgasmic but definitely less discomfort and lube.

aesthetics aside, sex with intact men just feels so much better. Wish there were more of them in the US!

Having had sex with both, I have to say that I personally don't think either is necessarily better. There's more skin moving around during sex with an uncircumcised man, yes; it feels different, yes, but not in an "Oh my gods I'm having so many more orgasms" kind of way. I also find that some uncircumcised men tend to have a very arrogant and holier-than-thou attitude about their penii which is a total turnoff.

Gee, the International Coalition FOR GENITAL INTEGRITY did this study?  They sure aren't biased or anything.

Obvs the "study" is biased and overstating the case, but do I prefer men intact? Yeah. The foreskin has some very nice benefits in sex and the intact men I've been with have been slightly more sensitive than those who weren't (based on a limited sample). A friend recently told me a story about a guy he knew who decided to get circumcised as an adult - he apparently said it was "like going from color to black-and-white" in terms of sensation. And to Solstice,  lower rates of STD transmission with circumcision is a myth: they're the same here as in Europe, where most men are not circumcised.

I've never detected any difference in sensation. Circumsized or uncircumsized, a penis is a penis. Besides, everybody knows that size is the only thing that matters.
