And the Critics Choice Award Goes To...

Posted by Brian Fairbanks

At last night's Critic's Choice Awards, Slumdog Millionaire continued its improbable road to the Oscars, capturing Best Picture, Director, Young Actor, and Musical Score.

While Slumdog Millionaire continues to scoop up major awards, Milk is left to languish-- or, um, spoil. And even though it would be impossible to watch both films back to back and not consider Milk the greater work of art, by a landslide, it appears Slumdog is now the leader in this horse race for the most trophies. (The only Golden Globe nomination Gus Van Sandt's biopic has received is for Sean Penn as best actor. Ouch-- not even best screenplay?)

But there's one category we can all agree on... and that's best supporting actor...

Last night, Josh Brolin, James Franco, Heath Ledger, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Robert Downey, Jr. duked it out for closely-watched prize. Check out what happened, it's a pretty emotional moment:

about the blogger

Emily Farris writes about culture and food for numerous publications and websites you've probably never heard of, including her own blog eefers. Her first cookbook, Casserole Crazy: Hot Stuff for Your Oven was published in 2008. Emily recently escaped New York and now lives in a ridiculously large apartment in Kansas City, MO with her cat, but just one... so far.

Brian Fairbanks is a filmmaker living in the wilds of Brooklyn. He previously wrote for the Hartford Courant and Gawker. He won the Williamsburg Spelling Bee once. He loves cats, women with guns, and burning books.

Colleen Kane has been an editor at BUST and Playgirl magazines and has written for the endangered species of dead-tree magazines like SPIN and Plenty, as well as Radar Online and other websites. She lives in exile in Baton Rouge with her fiance, two dogs, and her former cat. Read her personal blogs at ColleenKane.com.
