Full Frontal Nudity On British Afternoon TV

More evidence British television is not at all like American television -"life drawing classes featuring nude models on afternoon television.", on Britain's Channel 4. "Viewers of Life Class: Today's Nude will be able to sketch models from home, while an expert will give pointers throughout the program." Censors, where you at? "The idea for the show came from artist Alan Kane who said Channel 4 had no concerns at all 'because it's educational and nonsexualised nudity,' he said."

Wow. That's certainly a different attitude towards the human body and art. And Kane's argument that life drawing is becoming a lost skill is certainly well taken. Sure, you can say "why don't they draw still lives", but there is real value in knowing how to draw the human body, and this is the best way to do it. Of course some people will tune in to be titillated - but that won't make British moral structure collapse. Everybody will be okay.

True story - your humble correspondent went to an artsy high school, and, being a horny 15-year-old, signed up for a nude figure drawing class. On the first day of classes, the teacher said "today we will be working with mass." At which point an obese man entered the room and took off his robe. It was a brilliant maneuver, designed to separate the aspiring artists from the desperate pervs. That class was dropped immediately.

It's all true! I'm an American living in Scotland and the things I see on TV here shock the white socks off me. They have a thing called a watershed which doesn't allow this type of programming to appear until after 9:00, but once the clock strikes 21:00 it's no holds barred. Everything but penetration! God save the Queen!

As a Brit living in the US i have the same shock about seeing a version of something like Die Hard on standard TV on a Saturday afternoon. Edited out are the swear word and the slightest view of some bare skin however left in are the parts where people are shot/stabbed/maimed etc. As a list of priorities for protection, i could care less about the youth of today swearing or seeing sex, however a wee bit less "people being shot in the face" might be better for us all.

I agree wholeheartedly, mrcharles. Couldn't have said it better myself.
