So, I moved to Laramie from Minnesota several years ago to attend school. I've traveled that stretch of I-80 from Iowa to Rock Springs many many times and even further to Portland, once. I enjoyed reading about your experiences on this piece of road as I have spent countless hours ruminating over my existence and life choices while traveling between some of the same places you've mentioned. Very cool...

I read a few pages of what I'll call "nothing." When she had time to reflect on her situation she thought about music, about the scenry, nothing worth writing.

Normally I'd find it to be shamelessly self-promoting if you were to put the title of the forthcoming book in your article. But when it's this well written, I'd consider it a favor (I'll never rememeber to buy it now). Nice words, nice pics. Thanks for making 15 minutes of work go by better.

I've also found it really therapeutic in the past to take a long road trip by myself, on roads without too much traffic. Nothing to do but drive, listen to good music, watch the changing scenery, and think about whatever, for hours on end. I can't say I'd find it relaxing to listen to NPR for that long, but if your musical selection is limited, it's probably healthier than listening to Liz Phair over and over and over. The only problem with using driving as therapy these days with these gas prices is that an actual therapist might be cheaper! Good luck.

Jami - Would love to hear about your experience in Portland. A post road trip story even. Are you planning on mingling in PDX? Perhaps i'll see you out! Look for the sullen guy in the corner watching everyone. BTW, Sleater-Kinney is fabulous! Makes me want to become a feminist.
