I am almost 28 and I go skating every Sunday night. It is "adult" night. I skated every weekend as a child until I was about 16 and it wasn't cool anymore. I recently met some friends who all love to skate, so we formed a skating crew and have been having a blast ever since! People make fun of me, but these are the same people who spend all weekend in bars getting hammered and wondering why they are getting sallow skin and lovehandles. Skating is way more fun!

What you seek lies in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, where under the guidance of the godfather of skating, David "D" Miles, adults skate blissfully each weekend. A large sound system on wheels pumps up the jam while traditional quad- and in-line skaters boogie to the beat. The "San Francisco Skate Patrol" provides hydration and first aid as a relaxed crowd of park-goers spectates from a grassy hill next to the closed-off park entrance that serves as the outdoor rink. There is coordinated line-dance skating and free-for-all as well and the vibe is all-inclusive. And as icing on the cake, one can break away and make the mile-or-so skate to the Ocean and back through the beautiful park. There's also a Friday Night Skate through the city every week during the summer, AND races through the Napa Valley and an annual skate down to LA. Thanks to D Miles, San Francisco is living the dream--without irony, and with plenty of joy. Check out CORA.org
