soda pot

Starting next month, Colorado stoners can say goodbye to cotton mouth with Canna Cola, a new medical marijuana soda developed by Northern California artist Clay Butler. While Butler's is technically not the first THC-enhanced soda on the market, his is by far the most widely publicized. And, he claims, the most elegant. In an interview with the Santa Cruz Sentinel Butler calls out other "soda pots":

They're hippie-dippy and rinky-dink... they pick the most inappropriate and unreadable fonts... there's marijuana leaves on everything. It's a horrible cliche in the industry.

Branding isn't the only difference between Canna Cola and run of the mill pot soft drinks, Butler says flavoring is also a factor. Whereas other sodas have a heavy after-taste, Canna Cola tastes more like "a light beer," probably because it has less THC than its competitors.

What's really interesting about Butler, beyond his confusion over marketing tactics, is that he has never smoked pot in his life. He just has an unfounded interest in providing medical marijuana users with an array of highbrow, totally legible soda options with names just as realistic as Canna Cola: Dr. Weed, Sour Diesel, Grape Ape, and Orange Kush. Yup, just some non-hippie-dippy sodas for all those "no-nonsense" marijuana users to consume.
