Man charged with DUI after leaving his own DUI hearing

File under drinking problem: William E. Parminter, a fifty-four year old Nebraska man, was in Lancaster County District Court last Thursday for a hearing regarding his fourth DUI arrest. Lincoln Police Officer John Clarke, who had assisted in the May 14 arrest of Parminter, was there to testify in the evidence suppression hearing, but it was postponed, according to Officer Katie Flood. When Parminter left the courthouse at about noon, Clarke, acting on a hunch, followed him down the street where Parminter had his Jeep Cherokee parked. Parminter got into the vehicle and pulled away. The only problem was, Parminter's license had been — and still is — suspended when he was pulled over back on May 14.

After, yet again, pulling him over moments later, Clarke said he detected the odor of alcohol coming from Parminter, and subsequently found a half-full can of Keystone Light (alcoholic alert!) in the center console of the Cherokee. A preliminary breath test revealed that Parminter's blood-alcohol content was a ridiculously-elevated 0.238 percent, almost three times the legal limit to drive. Parminter was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, fifth-offense; driving during a suspension; open container; and no proof of insurance. Although Parminter was arrested Thursday on suspicion of a fifth DUI, it's actually the latest in a string of eight drunken-driving-related arrests in Lincoln stretching back to 1981, according to records. Parminter could not be reached for comment, as he was in training for his next court appearance, getting shitfaced at his local bar.
