The Netherlands are trying to ban "nuisance" tourists from weed coffeeshops

In an unexpected and uncharacteristically uptight move, the Netherlands are working to ban out-of-towners from their endlessly popular marijuana cafes in hopes of "combating drug tourism and the accompanying public nuisance."

And here I thought they liked the droves of nineteen-year-old stoners America so generously sends their way each year! Apparently, though, the weed enthusiasts of the world have worn out their welcome in the notoriously legalized country, and licensed Dutch coffee shops will now require a "cannabis card" to prove a person is a local before allowing them entrance into the sweet, gentle embrace of a legal weed den. "The Cabinet expects that closure of coffee shops to foreign drug tourists will ensure that they no longer travel to the Netherlands to purchase and consume cannabis," said a spokesperson for the justice ministry. 

Beginning in January, the ban will go into effect in the nation's southern provinces. But the narcing won't spread to Amsterdam until 2013, so go get baked and irritate the locals while you still can.
