Abstinence supporters bombard British teens with "sex sucks" campaign

As abstinence continues to fall out of fashion (as if anyone except the religious right enjoyed it in the first place), supporters of no-sex-till-marriage education have hatched a new plan to spread their failing message. According to the British press, they're mailing pamphlets to every secondary school in the country as part of what I call their new "sex sucks" campaign.

Sex, the pamphlet says, is "ugly and destructive and will lead to misery and regret." Well, yes, but then why have it at all, before or after marriage? Okay, I kid, what they really say is this:

"In the context of a faithful, lifelong marriage, sexual intimacy is beautiful and enriching, but where a sexual relationship is pursued to express passing feelings and emotions, it is ugly and destructive and will lead to misery and regret."

Ah, so sex is only good in the context of marriage but never for the sake of sex. I know a few married couples (correction: almost every married couple) that would loudly dispute that finding.

By the way, the pamphlet also goes on to say that young people today are basically just practicing for divorce instead of marriage, which also makes no sense.

On the other side of the aisle is the sex-positive movement, which lately manifested itself in the form of a Time article about an Oregon couple who give out condoms to trick-or-treaters.
