Artist creates map of the kinkiest states in the union
By Kelly BourdetFebruary 2nd, 2011, 1:00 pmComments (1)Artist R. Luke DeBois has created a map of the United States depicting the kinkiest areas, culling from self-descriptions found on twenty dating sites. The art project, entitled "A More Perfect Union," quantified the dating-site data in the same way as the U.S. Census: by congressional district. According to the the map, southern New Mexico and a huge swath of Mississippi have some super-kinky men, whereas Alaska and West Virginia seem to skew toward lady kinks.
The map, billed as a "romantic atlas" of the states, also uses keywords in place of city and neighborhood names. My neighborhood is dishearteningly full of self-described "hipsters" and "DJs"; however, it does predict that I live at the corner of Sass and Pleasurable. Sounds about right.

I would appreciate it if the NY Times would create a map of this similar to how they have a map of the country when election results are coming in. Easy to click, easy to learn.
