South African pastor: "Jesus had HIV"

In a publicity stunt of vagina-flashing proportions, a South African minister began a three-part sermon series, entitled “Jesus was HIV-positive." As far as assertions go, this seems counter-intuitive, given the fact that HIV is most often transmitted via unprotected sex or needle sharing -- activities that, most Christians would contend, Jesus did not partake in.   

The Cape Town church leader, Pastor Xola Skosana, emphasized the message that Jesus “put himself in the shoes of people who experience brokenness. Isaiah 53, for example, paints a picture of Jesus who takes upon himself the infirmities and the brokenness of humanity,” and claims he is using the series as a device to de-stigmatize HIV and AIDS in his community. The pastor concluded his first sermon by publicly taking an HIV test, an act that one-hundred followers then voluntarily repeated.  

As you can probably guess, lots of Christians have chosen to ignore the intention of his message -- and the political realities of HIV in a country like South Africa -- and get really fucking pissed off about this.
