Newt Low: Gingrich says Obama supported "infanticide"

Another week, another eighty-seven Republican debates. In case you tuned out of last night's dog and pony show to preserve a few brain cells, former Speaker and current angry butterball Newt Gingrich had this to spout:

"Not once did anybody in the elite media ask why Barack Obama voted in favor of legalizing infanticide. If we're going to have a debate about who is the extremist on these issues, it's Barack Obama, who as a state senator voted to protect doctors who killed babies who survived the abortion."

Yes, in an effort to claw his way back into relevancy, the yeasty town-crier of the Republican Party has again warned his compatriots that the enemy isn't amongst their ranks, it's that possibly-baby-throttling ruler of the White House.

Naturally, he threw in "extremist" for good measure, which is a good hair's breadth away from "Kenyan-born terrorist," but still echoes all the lowly insinuations that have been leveled at the President. Gingrich would tell you with all the fire that his capacious belly can muster that it's fair game (in fact he'd say "fundamentally obvious") when really it's a simple smear, and nothing more. It's a smear because even after it's calmly refuted by actual facts, the dirty residue of such an accusation lingers in the air. Which is the point. If your opponents find themselves in the position of having to say "The President does not and has never supported killing babies," then your smear has worked.

We all remember the wink-nudge of the cable jockeys during the last campaign, with their endless repetition of "Barack HUSSEIN Obama" and the birth-certificate circus that persisted beyond fact after fact in its quest to undermine the very citizenship of the exotically-named now-President. Hell, She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named long ago already accused the man of wanting to set up "death panels" to dispatch with the elderly, much in that same grimy vein. Granny-killing, meet baby-killing. It doesn't get much lower than this.

As Romney and Santorum pull far enough ahead to make it a two-elephant race, you can expect Newt's pronouncements to become ever more desperate and bombastic. But really when both Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum (!) are considered more likeable than you are, maybe it's time to re-evaluate. Or repent.

In reality, Obama voted against a bill that made it illegal for doctors to allow infants born alive--through unsuccessful abortions or otherwise--to be allowed to die. So Obama didn't support infanticide, he just didn't want people who allowed newborns to die from neglect to face any legal consequences.

Yeah,

Not requiring that infants be given potentially life-saving treatment is close enough to infanticide for me. We're all looking for the refreshing change in Jan 2013.

Doofus, wherever did you get the idea that Gingrich and his supporters even understand the concept of "reality?"

Yeah, he needs to lose his job to Obama's economy to truly understand reality.

Can't we just admit that there are way too many unwanted children in the world. Let's stop acting like every sperm is sacred. Pretty soon there will be 9 billion people on this planet--we are a scourge and need to be culled.

Hey, you've been here a while and not helped things. Time for you to do the honorable thing, cull yourself and give some of the rest of us a shot. You failed.
