It looked like Kelly Clarkson wasn't the only musical artist stumping for Ron Paul briefly yesterday, when tweets appeared from the verified accounts of No Doubt, Rise Against, and X-Factor automaton Nicole Scherzinger, that announced support for the hardcore libertarian. No Doubt's tweet, for instance, read, “If you actually read what Ron Paul is saying, you will discover that for the first time in your life a politician is not lying to you." (Note: if you actually read what Ron Paul is saying, you will discover the man is straight-up insanity bananas.)

Naturally, lots of people questioned these endorsements considering Rise Against's progressive leanings, No Doubt's randomness, and Scherzinger's dead-eyed stare of complete oblivion. And right those people were, because it turns out that the accounts had been hacked by Ron Paul supporters! Scherzinger simply deleted her tweet, but both bands responded with denials in 140 characters or less: "Our Twitter account was hacked last night. No political endorsements at this time. Love, No Doubt." and the more aggressive "As you would all assume, We DO NOT support Ron Paul" from Rise Against.

Obviously it's not cool to hack into someone's anything, and that is certainly the worst part of this affair, but more concerning to me is, you're going to go to all the trouble of hijacking a celebrity Twitter account to support your candidate, and this is who you choose? Two exceedingly random bands and a woman best known for destroying a thirteen-year old's spirit? Maybe I shouldn't be saying this, but dream bigger dreams, unethical Ron Paul fans.
