Keith Olbermann indefinitely suspended from MSNBC

Keith Olbermann suspended from MSNBC.

You know how people in movies are always saying things like "follow the money"? Well, it looks like people in real life actually do that, and they've discovered that MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann's money leads to some political candidates — three of them, all Democrats.

And, just like that, Olbermann's been 'suspended indefinitely' by his longtime network.

Ouch. Time to start taking bets on how long it'll take someone to hold a Rally to Restore Keith Olbermann. If this suspension leads to a firing, then the clip below, in which he discusses Sarah Palin and the orange-hued presumptive Speaker of the House John Boehner, will be his last as host of MSNBC's Countdown. End of an era?

Olbermann is a dinkus majorus but who didn't know he was a Demo? He's a commentator not a news guy.

Keith Olbermann is just as much a jerkoff as any FoxNews commentator.

No comment on Olbermann's jerkoff/dinkus status - however, Joe Scarborough gave money to a Republican candidate and no one is talking about putting him on indefinite leave. That just seems a bit .... odd.

Follow Rachel Maddow's money too while your at it. She is just as full of crap as Olbermann

"Keith Olbermann is just as much a jerkoff as any FoxNews commentator."

False equivalence. FoxNews preaches hate/lies. Olberman preaches against bigots.

One man's bigot is another man's pinhead. Go Chris Hayes!

KO was a complete idiot to do this. That said, to equate him to the pinheads at Faux is ridiculous. He reports news with a political slant. Faux "reports" either out of context or blatant falsehoods. Stewart lost all credibility when he compared the two like they were equal in disregard for both truth and the country.

Maddow explained last night that MSNBC has rules about how to go about donating money to candidates. Olbermann didn't follow them. MSNBC is a legitimate news organization. Fos "News" isn't. It's a very old story -- if you are decent, honest and honorable, you have to play by certain rules. Indecent, dishonest, dishonorable organization like Fox don't have to play by the same rules.

I didn't know that non-government employers were allowed to restrict whether or not their employees could contribute to political campaigns. Didn't the US supreme court rule that corporations could contribute to campaigns as if they were individuals? If Mr Olberman had been incorporated would his donations have been allowable?

NotALawyer commented on Nov 06 10 at 11:51 am

@NotALawyer: The First Amendment (which the Court ruled protected corporations' right to contribute to political causes, overturning a law that limited that ability) has nothing to do with how private employers regulate their employees' speech. The First Amendment merely says that Olbermann can't be punsihed by the government for contributing to poltical campaigns (with exceptions not here relevant); it says nothing about what rules his employer can set or whether it can punish him for violating them by making unpermitted contributions.
