Like Nietzsche said (before he thought himself into a madhouse), "a joke is an epigram on the death of a feeling." And celebrity misfortune is certainly the mother's milk of late-night talk-show content. So Jimmy Fallon duly had some fun with the Russell Brand-Katy Perry break-up on Friday's Late Night, reprising his Russell Brand impression after horrifying Michael Buble with it during an SNL duet.

It seems as if there is no one Fallon cannot imitate, making him some kind of eerily perceptive sponge. His meta-skit "poncey" scheme entailed donning a curly wig, and all-black ensemble, and nailing Brand's sing-songy foppishness while reading and commenting on tabloid rag, US Weekly. Brallon (as we'll call him) divines editorial bias in some of the photos, saying he looks like "a Game of Thrones character who shops at J. Crew," as well as "a hipster version of Ebenezer Scrooge."

As the (wind)fallout from the split continues, we get a hint at what led to its dissolution, with Brand telling Marc Maron on his WTF podcast:

"I'd do a gig and four or five women would come back. There were times when it wasn't all desperate and ugly. There were times when I was this representation of pure libertarianism and sexuality. It's so hard not to cherish them and crave them. I know where they ended up. I know where they went, but I became this thing. Women meeting across me. One would leave, another would come. There'd be crossovers. And they had no problem with each other. And it was blissful."

Aldous Snow, anyone?

Brand was probably smart to get out of there, judging by Perry's father's recent Mel Gibson impression.

well, he took the idea from Russel himself. brand does this readings of tabloids on his live shows. very original, fallon.

That's how impressions usually work. More often than not, you want to imitate the person doing something they actually do.
