A group of hackers calling themselves "The Script Kiddies" hijacked Fox News' FoxNewsPolitics Twitter account late Sunday evening, creating fireworks by falsely reporting that President Obama had been assassinated. Seven fake tweets in total were still visible to the 35,000 followers of the account more than six hours later.

One individual from the mischievous group claimed a loose affiliation with everyone's favorite hacking collective, Anonymous. Following a smartass sign-off tweet reading "We wish @joebiden the best of luck as our new President of the United States. In such a time of madness there's light at the end of tunnel," Twitter accounts ostensibly belonging to the group, including @TheScriptKiddie and @ScriptKiddi3s, were suspended.

Prior to the sick joke about the president being shot, the hacking group apparently had another agenda. One of the "Script Kiddies" explained to Think magazine — run by students at SUNY Stony Brook — why the group targeted Fox News: "We are looking to find information about corporations to assist with antisec. Fox News was selected because we figured their security would be just as much of a joke as their reporting."

Fox News confirmed the hack, writing on their website, "FoxNews.com regrets any distress the false tweets may have created." Following the recent hack of a Fox News ticker and other disruptions, one has to think that this latest incident isn't the last that Murdoch's minions will hear from these clandestine troublemakers.

I'm curious how many times these were retweeted by Fox fans - and what their added messages were.

What does "being affiliated with Anonymous" even mean? "I've been on 4chan"?

I would also love to see retweets of this.
