Have you heard of Phil Davison? He is emphatically not the nominee for treasurer in Stark County, Ohio. This probably has something to do with the, uh, impassioned speech he gave while seeking that nomination. I'm getting the feeling he won't be allowed utensils much sharper than a spork after this:
Yikes? Masters in Communications, you say? (University of Primal Screaming, class of '02!) The video of Davison's freakout obviously made the rounds on the Internet — though can you really call something a freakout if it was planned? — drawing him far more attention than he would have gotten if he won the nomination. And there's a very important lesson for anyone seeking public office in this story, which I think is well illustrated by the quotes Davison gave to Talking Point Memo when they contacted him today:
"I went home and had a ham sandwich and went to bed and thought that was the end of it," Davison said when reached at home this afternoon. "A friend called, and well, I'm not very good with electronics, is there a YouTube? It was on some kind of electronic server."
Attention, politicians of all stripes: YouTube is a thing, and if you give a speech with the emotional intensity turned up to a eleven, you will be on it.
