  • Plants Attack a Building

Have you seen this? Plants are totally attacking that building up above! Somebody should help the people inside! Or maybe, it's actually this:

  • Nurse, Get That Plant Water – Stat!

I don’t know if it’s clear, but instead of actually watering my plants today, I’ve decided to post about stuff that does it for you. One of my favorite online stores, Generate, has just released the totally hilarious, yet completely slick looking IV Pot.

Designed by Vitamin, who, ironically, doesn’t design vitamins, the IV Pot comes with a fiberglass pot, an adjustable metal rod, and a refillable I.V. bag, with a flow regulator.

That all being said, guess how much it costs?

  • Your Plants Need Worms

Normally, worms aren’t a good thing. They aren’t good for dogs, they certainly aren’t good for humans, and I guess they’re okay for soil, but, you know, kind of gross.

So imagine my delight upon finding out about Wormie, The Hydro Sensor. Wormie is the first worm to be a real asset to society, and turns out, he’s made of terracotta. The way he’s helpful is that you tells you when the water level for your plants is low. Not by talking, though the cartoon mouth and eyes would strongly suggest that. Find out how, after the jump!

  • Net Yourself a Few Bugs

I know it isn’t manly to admit, but I hate bugs. Hate ‘em. They’re horrible little creepy crawly things that make the world a worse place to live in.

    The solution, after the jump...

  • Upside Down Tomato Garden

Nope, can’t think of any problems with this. Not one. Nothing like tomatoes falling and smashing all over your floor, or anything like that.

More upside-down plants, after the jump...

  • Grow Your Own "Herbs" With The AeroGarden

Hitting two of today’s posting requirements at once, this bad boy is both green (colored), and green (eco-friendly). Now, I should get this out of the way before we get into it: I have a Black Thumb. Meaning, if you bring a plant near me, it will die. It’s not that I hate plants; I actually like them a lot. I just forget that they’re there. If, maybe, they said something like “Hey, water me,” I might not kill them quite as frequently, but I don’t see that happening any time soon.

So imagine my surprise upon getting the AeroGarden as a gift… Especially since it has the one requirement that will make me pay attention to it: it’s also a gadget. Yes, I like technology more than living things. What blog have YOU been reading?

The AeroGarden grows plants aeroponically in pods, has an attached lamp to simulate the sun, and will grow anything from herbs, to herbs (yeah, you know what I mean). There’s a number of different models, but why not splurge on the Deluxe AeroGarden, which grows plants as large as tomatoes. Or, you know, other large plants. Cough. Wheeze. Hack.

    [$230, AeroGrow]

  • Cheap Trick: Watering Can

I can't believe we haven't featured anything from IKEA yet for our Cheap Trick series. I mean, IKEA is the definition of cheap trick (and you wouldn't believe how much I'm resisting the urge now to name a few choice people from my past as the definition of 'cheap trick' instead, but that's just the kind of mature, classy lady I am).

  • Cheap Trick: Egglings

This weekend we go on Daylight Savings Time, which as far as I'm concerned, is the official start of spring. Yippee—spring!! And what better way to celebrate the beginning of spring, then with some adorable little ceramic egglings? Well, okay, I can think of some other fantastic ways to celebrate (can't you?), but the egglings are good, nonetheless. They grow plants, see (petunina! wild strawberry! mint! prickly cactus! basil!). You just crack one open, add water, and voila!, you've got a cute little springtime oasis for your window.

    [$9.50, Elsewares]

about the blogger

Wendy Atterberry is a recent transplant to New York City via Chicago. You can often find her at some karaoke dive bar singing her repertoire, which includes "Midnight Train to Georgia," "Daniel," and most recently, "Sweet Dreams." Don't expect her to always hit the right notes. She lives in Manhattan with her boyfriend and two cats, and has a blog like everyone else.

Alex Zalben is a writer living in New York City. He's written for McSweeney's, Modern Humorist and PulpSecret.com. As one-fifth of the sketch comedy group Elephant Larry, he has been written up in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and pretty much every other major publication. Their blog was named one of PC Magazine's Top Blogs for 2007, and they recently won an ECNY Award for their viral short, "Minesweeper: The Movie." Alex did not know love until he bought his first Mac.

Steph Auteri is a freelance writer and proofreader who has been published in Publishers Weekly, New York Press, Playgirl, and other bastions of fine writing. She maintains a professional site https://www.stephiswrite.com, and also blogs about freelancing over at Freelancedom. You can keep up on her day-to-day by visiting her Twitter page.

Diana Vilibert is a freelance writer, among other things. Born in Lithuania, she now lives in New Jersey, where she doesn't have to walk to work ten miles in the snow, barefoot, uphill both ways. Diana cannot afford most of the products she writes about because she buys too many pairs of heels to make up for her shoeless childhood. She's written for MarieClaire.com, Janemag.com, and CosmoGIRL!.
