  • Seeing Red

    [$12, Supermarket]

When I came upon these red, FELTgood magnets on Supermarket, it reminded me that I had been (unsuccessfully) looking for ways to add red splashes of color to my kitchen. And these would go great with the red garbage can and the red clock. But I still need something more.

After the jump, some other red pieces that might work. Know of any others I should check out?

  • Cheap Fix: My New Kitchen Table

I wish I had a "before" picture to show you but, alas, our kitchen was never pretty enough to photograph and, at the moment, the old kitchen table we inherited from my cousin is lying on its side in my bedroom, waiting for me to lug it over to Goodwill or something.

The problem: We had a small, round table in a small kitchen. The smallness of the table meant a lack of surface space for cooking (as I already had the napkins, coffee pot, etc. on it), and the roundness of it meant that it jutted out too far into the rest of the kitchen, making things a tight squeeze. I longed for a long, rectangular table, but the (buzz-kill) hubby insisted that it was "a want, not a need," and that we didn't have the money to spend.

    But then we found this:

  • Koreannovation ’08: Jade Treated Towels + Video!

This is the last thing I’m gonna post about the Koreannovation Fair, but it’s probably one of my favorites. Okmil creates Natural Jade Treated Towels. They revitalize and naturally moisturize the skin, unclog pores, and actually lighten the color of your skin, which you can see in the video below. But come back after the video to find out their horrifying secret. Totally not kidding this time:

  • Wall Update, a Table, and Story of a Special Lamp

Because I believe decorating/designing a home is always a work in progress, I wanted to share with you, well, our progress. As you can see from the photo above, there hasn't been much progress from a couple weeks ago when I first posted about the big empty wall space. In fact, there's still nothing on the wall, but look, a lampshade! And a plant! And some of the clutter is cleaned up! Anyway, I think Drew and I decided what to do with all that space above the couch...

about the blogger

Wendy Atterberry is a recent transplant to New York City via Chicago. You can often find her at some karaoke dive bar singing her repertoire, which includes "Midnight Train to Georgia," "Daniel," and most recently, "Sweet Dreams." Don't expect her to always hit the right notes. She lives in Manhattan with her boyfriend and two cats, and has a blog like everyone else.

Alex Zalben is a writer living in New York City. He's written for McSweeney's, Modern Humorist and PulpSecret.com. As one-fifth of the sketch comedy group Elephant Larry, he has been written up in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and pretty much every other major publication. Their blog was named one of PC Magazine's Top Blogs for 2007, and they recently won an ECNY Award for their viral short, "Minesweeper: The Movie." Alex did not know love until he bought his first Mac.

Steph Auteri is a freelance writer and proofreader who has been published in Publishers Weekly, New York Press, Playgirl, and other bastions of fine writing. She maintains a professional site https://www.stephiswrite.com, and also blogs about freelancing over at Freelancedom. You can keep up on her day-to-day by visiting her Twitter page.

Diana Vilibert is a freelance writer, among other things. Born in Lithuania, she now lives in New Jersey, where she doesn't have to walk to work ten miles in the snow, barefoot, uphill both ways. Diana cannot afford most of the products she writes about because she buys too many pairs of heels to make up for her shoeless childhood. She's written for MarieClaire.com, Janemag.com, and CosmoGIRL!.
