I once worked in a university office with a bunch of poltically correct, social activist academic types who were constantly lecturing me on how to be a better human being (Learn Spanish! Listen to BBC America! Go vegan!), which was every bit as tedious and exhausting as you might imagine.
Immigration reform was definitely one of their pet concerns but even more important than that was the environment. They wanted me to print on both sides of the paper, to carpool or take public transporation as much as possible, and to recycle my batteries, which were all great suggestions, but did they listen when I suggested getting professional haircuts, updating their wardrobes, and getting some sun? No. They did not. And talk about a human rights violation. Worse than that, they didn't even listen when I told them recycling batteries wasn't necessary when I could simply recharge my batteries instead--a cheaper and more environmentally friendly option.
Maybe they would have listened if I told them in Spanish...
