Crush of the Week: Al Gore

Posted by Nicole Pasulka

Remember when Al Gore was a stiff, humorless loser? Pretty hard to imagine now that he's won an Oscar, an Emmy, a MTV Movie Award, the Nobel Peace Prize and, most importantly, Scanner's Crush of the Week. Goddamn! We are so proud of Al Gore! He is the winningest losing presidential candidate in history. If he'd have us, we'd gladly abandon the real world and join him in his quest to curb widespread climate change. Also, he looks foxy in a shirt and tie.

And for this he is our Crush of the Week.

He can put his Nobel Prize on the mantle of his heated ridiculously large home after ferrying it there on his private jet.

Ah… global warming!

The prize should go to the company that actually reduced their carbon footprint.  Not to the guy who bought carbon credits and continued to produce C02 at a rate 20 times the national average.

You talk the talk time to start walking the walk.

Let's not go into the fact that his family made a pretty penny on tobacco as well.

you are high.  i agree with woogie and shdowgod... gore is a poser.  he's getting rich while preaching to the rest of us.  his carbon footprint is ridiculous.  F him.

Having a crush on the IPCC? A good idea. They are scientists like me, and we are definitely sexy.

A crush on Al Gore? Seriously, have you any idea about when he jumped on the climate change bandwagon? That was right when others had laboriously pushed it long enough, against Gore's negative interference, to take up enough momentum to start accelerating on its own.

It's hypocritical to tell Gore to stop flying or buy a smaller house when he can afford the one he owns. Life does not work that way. But it is just as hypocritical to award him a prize for his achievements in climate control. The Norwegians did that just to make a statement before the next election in the US.

i'd just word the crush differnetly so that the conservative morons above me would get it (once and for all):

even though he is a carbon burning jerk,

al gore made many of the rest of us think about the issue,

and do something about it, where otherwise we would not.

and FOR THAT, he is our crush of the week.

...let's get political.

The man would have won the presidency if he took his home state, the hell with Florida he only had to take Tenn.

And Lieberman as a running mate. This guy had so little confidence in Gore winning the presidency that he didn't take his name off the ballot for senator in Conn.  I guess it was his way of ensuring he had a job after the election.

And while we're at it let's take a shot at Kerry, the man wanted to bring jobs back to the US. That's great but he's the same guy who outsourced his wife.

All in all everyone crapped on Gore for everything but his politics. He's an extremist Johnny come lately to global warming.

The Nobel Peace Prize is a joke. First Yassar Arafat and now Al Gore. What the hell is going on in Norway? Are they on crack? Is the most eventful thing happening there the weather?
