Gen Y, the Cuddle Party is over: Newsweek has decided it is time for you to grow up. And you know what? They’re right. (This news item was brought to you by your mother.)

No boys allowed, not even Christopher Hitchens: Slate starts a women’s-only politics blog. What do you wanna bet it’s not funny?

Some of you should be excited about this: We can argue about Al Gore all day long, until you actually reduce your own carbon footprint, make a documentary that impacts the world, and recover elegantly from one of the most devastating and humiliating political disappointments in history. But he is not running for president. So there. Happy now?

Oh, I don't even know where to start with what's wrong with that Newsweek article.  Yeah, I'm getting a master's degree, but did anyone mention that a B.A. is to Gen Y what a high school diploma was to the baby boomers?  Did anyone mention skyrocketing tuition for the degrees and training that you need to live above the poverty line, unless you're Britney Spears?  Did anyone mention that our parents all got married at 25, but then half of them got divorced?  Please.  

Also, the only reason so many twenty-nine-year-olds are living with their parents is because their parents are letting them.  Maybe this all happened because the boomers refused to grow a pair.

Amen.  As soon as I graduated from college, my mom (born at the very beginning of the baby boom) started charging me rent.  Giving me June--my first full month out of school--as a freebie was her way of being nice.  I'm 30 and still have to rent while those friends who got a free ride for years all own houses or condos, paid for with years worth of salary that i had to spend on rent and food and utility bills. GRRRR.
