The Foo Fighters Would Like John McCain to Stop Comparing Himself to Kurt Cobain

Posted by Emily Farris

Poor GOP—it just can't nail down a campaign song.

John Mellencamp and Jackson Browne both told McCain to stop using their songs, then Heart slapped the Republicans with a cease and desist order for the unauthorized use of "Barracuda" to describe the Pitbull in Lipstick. Now the Foo Fighters would like John McCain to stop comparing himself to Kurt Cobain.

True, they were both beautiful in their twenties, and one is dead and the other will probably be dead in a few years. That is where the similarities end, which is why the Foo Fighters want the candidate to stop using their hit, "My Hero" to pump himself up at rallies... and perhaps in the war room, bathroom and bedroom.

"The saddest thing about this is that `My Hero' was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential," the band said in a statement. "To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song."

Well, John. We bet Toby Kieth has a ditty for you. Or maybe Kenny Chesney?

Are you going to credit the weekly (I believe it's my hometown The Stranger) for the clipped New Column?

I feel sorry for the old fart, so I'm going to write a song for him.  It's gonna be called "Nucular Maverick."

Actually, the living descendents of the Maverick family want him to stop using their name too.
