  • Power Through SAD With Sex or Light, If You Have To

It's cold here in New York. Cold, cold. Cold like someone put ice cubes in our undies cold. And the days are about to get shorter, and probably colder, so to prepare for a bunch of depressed New Yorkers The New York Times today explores SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder:

As daylight wanes, millions begin to feel depressed, sluggish and socially withdrawn. They also tend to sleep more, eat more and have less sex.

The Times suggests lamps. And if you don't have plans to have amazing sex all winter long, go find a lamp. Now. A really bright one. Because it's about to get dirty, and not in a good way. We've been there and it's not pretty. But really, try and make the dark work for you (read: sex, lots of it).

  • How to Be a Melon-Baller or a Left Handed Stranger

The best thing about these sexual positions for the lonely and the loveless is how disturbingly familiar they all seem. Not like we've ever DONE any of these things. But maybe, one rainy evening, with nothing but baking soda in the fridge and informericals on the TV, we thought about heading to the Ball Pit at Chuck-E-Cheese, but still had the self-respect to settle for drinking a fifth of Captain Morgan’s and blowing up balloons.
  • Robert Goulet: Those Pipes Were Too Beautiful for This World

Such sad news today, Scannerites. Robert Goulet passed away yesterday from interstitial pulmonary fibrosis at a Los Angeles hospital while waiting for a lung transplant. Rock on, Goulet. We'll be seeing you with a grin and a tux in that Broadway revue in the sky.

  • Grandma and Grandma Not Getting the Best Nursing Care, It Seems

According to this New York Times article, many elderly gays and lesbians are discriminated against and mistreated in nursing homes and by home care workers because of their sexual orientation. Gays and lesbians often go back into the closet when entering nursing care because it's easier than dealing with the prejudice of healthcare workers and other patients. Nursing homes specifically for gays and lesbians have been cropping up, because going in the closet greatly increases the likelihood of depression and loneliness in elderly lesbians and gays. Oh man. We need a teddy bear and a glass of warm milk. This is just too sad. (Thanks to Ann for the link)
