How can you keep Disney sincere after they’ve seen Shrek? Judging by this trailer, you can’t. Despite being an old-school 2D animation release- directed by longtime Mouse stalwarts Ron Clements and Jerome Musker- this trailer reeks of the kind of ironic self-awareness that’s been inflicted on children by the Dreamworks animation wing for the past decade. Yes, I realize that kissing a frog is icky, but is it really necessary for the princess in the trailer to know the fairy tale that she’s starring in, and to question the necessity of actually kissing the frog on the lips? I don’t think so. But why bother asking these questions when we can get up in arms about the “offensiveness” of the Cajun firefly at the end? Zzzzzzzzzzzz...
