Trailer Review: Twilight

Posted by Paul Clark

So this is Twilight? The Hollywood adaptation of “the hottest books since Harry Potter”? Because, to run the risk of pissing off the same contingent that took offense to my Trailer Review of High School Musical 3, I’m not really feeling this one. To me, this looks pretty cheesy, with some half-baked vampire mythos and second-rate, TV-ready special effects. Come to think, the whole trailer looks less like a spot for a would-be blockbuster than an ad for a new series on the CW- impossibly pretty characters who are sexy yet sensitive, plenty of self-aware “hip” dialogue (the “radioactive spider” line is a real groaner), and so on. Nonetheless, I’m hoping that this movie will allow Kristen Stewart the opportunity to do more substantial work in the future.

Factor in the glowing in daylight nonsense and the rock hard skin that all vampires in the books have. Not to mention sub par writing that most high school students would be ashamed of, and you have a real stinker of a movie that will do far better than it should based purely on the fangirls

I'm taking odds on who will be wearing more eyeliner at the film's premiere Friday: the boys or the girls.

The Harry Potter fans will see it just because it stars Robert Pattinson -- known to the Potter fans as Hogwart's heart-throb Cedric Diggory. With that kind of fan base backing it, the movie will bring in the bucks.
