  • Thursday Morning Poll for April 10, 2008

Well, that fairly well. In the first week of our new Thursday Morning Poll, our loyal Screengrab readers overwhelmingly selected The Dark Knight as their most-anticipated comic book movie of this summer. Coming in a distant second was the similarly awesome-looking Iron Man, with Hellboy II and The Incredible Hulk in a virtual tie at #3. Wanted proved to be singularly undeserving of its title, receiving no votes whatsoever.

To switch gears a bit, this week's poll was inspired by Tuesday's DVD release of Paul Thomas Anderson's latest magnum opus, There Will Be Blood.

  • Trailer Roundup: Hellboy II: The Golden Army

I enjoyed the original Hellboy movie well enough, but I wasn't exactly clamoring for a second installment, even with the return of director Guillermo Del Toro. However, seeing the trailer I've got to say- Hellboy II looks pretty darn cool. Not incidentally, it also looks more like a Del Toro film than the original film, with more creepy-crawlies and dreamlike imagery. And I find it sort of amazing that Universal is actually playing up the Pan's Labyrinth connection- who would have guessed that a studio would be using a subtitled movie to sell one of their big summer blockbusters? Also, if this trailer is any indication, the boring-ass agent from the original won't be returning for the sequel, which would be an improvement. Not sure if it's actually true, but I can hope, can't I?

  • Geekfare

When you're a comics nerd, it's Christmas every day, and over at Comics2Film -- rapidly becoming the indispensible site for those of us who can't get enough of men in tights on screen, "Strip Club" blogger Supernaut lays out the case that as great a year as it was for movies in general, it was an even better year for comic book, fantasy, and "geekfare" movies in general.  Elsewhere on the site, we're treated to the first stills from The Incredible Hulk, the debut trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy II:  The Golden Army, and, via Wizard magazine, an interview with Christopher Nolan about The Dark Knight, in which he discusses Heath Ledger's interpretation of the Joker as "the most extreme form of anarchist" and his own plans, or lack thereof, for a third Batman picture:  "Every film I’m working on, to me. is the last film I’m ever going to make."
