She'll be airing a special-one-time only prime time CBS Evening News With Katie Couric Wednesday from 8-8:30. That's right, against the first half-hour of American Idol. Which is probably why she's making that face.
Hmmm. Interesting counterprogramming - the news will pre-empt The New Adventures Of Old Christine. Apparently, CBS has no plans to move Katie to prime time; they're just trying to give the six people who aren't watching Idol a chance to watch her work. Here's Sean McManus, head of CBS News, on the experiment:
So many of her talents and so much of what makes Katie a great broadcaster can't be exhibited in the tight format between 6:30 and 7...This is a unique opportunity to showcase the CBS Evening News and give viewers who might not be able to sample the broadcast the chance to see the outstanding work being done by Katie and the CBS News team.
Not sure we get it, but, of course, we'll be watching for the next Bikini Girl during Couric's special report on TARP. Subprime mortgages are booooooring!
