James Wolcott of Vanity Fair ripped into the series finale of The L Word, saying the show "set lesbianism and storytelling back fifty years." Which, if you watch The L Word, is pretty damn funny. It's not that James Wolcott is wrong about the finale being terrible - of course it was terrible. No one takes this show seriously - so either James Wolcott has never watched The L Word before or he didn't get the joke. This is a show with a bearded pregnant man storyline. Saying The L Word set lesbianism back is like saying Urkel set African-American adolescents back. It's like saying Mighty Mouse set mice back, by pretending they could fly and talk. He might as well be pontificating on the unrealistic aspects of Hannah Montana. And as far as storytelling goes, The L Word hasn't been a show with intricate or cohesive narrative structure for years. This ain't The Wire, for chrissakes. We direct you to video from season 5 - the "Lesbian Turkish Oil Wrestling" episode...
